For the best deals on knowledge on Orlando flights check out our Orlando flights and airports article:
If you're travelling to Orlando for the first time you may find the below information useful.
There are two main airports serving Orlando, the larger is Orlando International and the smaller is Orlando Sanford.
The more prominent airlines tend to land at Orlando International, which is a very large and busy airport and, like New York's JFK, the car rental companies are situated way outside the airport so you have to take a bus to get to them. Still, if you're going with the larger airlines like BA or Virgin you may have little choice.
However, if you are lucky enough to be able to get a flight to Sanford you will find your arrival much more peaceful and far less stressful. You'll be checked through and have your luggage much quicker at Orlando Sanford airport, plus your car rental is right there at the door. Also, once you're in your car, it's a nice steady hour's drive along one road to get to the main holiday hotspots - well worth considering if you've never been to America before and you're a bit nervous about driving on the right in a left-hand drive, automatic shift car. You'll have a nice stress-free practice run before you hit the main streets.
On the other hand, if you arrive at Orlando International you'll be plunged straight into a world of freeway chaos with no breathing space to practice - small wonder then that there are many accidents involving British drivers near to Orlando International airport.
There are a number of flight comparison websites you should take a look at to find the best Orlando flight deals, such as NetFlights , eBookers and Skyscanner or Cheapflights.co.uk . The last two, Skyscanner and Cheapflights.co.uk are the best because they compare the airlines' own websites as well as the usual flight-booking services to find you the best flight offers and deals for Orlando.
If you're not too fussed about creature comforts then Thomson Airways , Britain's third largest carrier, will often have the cheapest flights and they land at the more peaceful Orlando Sanford. If you're looking for frills and perks you can't do much better than British Airways or Virgin Atlantic for flights to Orlando, in fact we'd say Virgin gives you a bit more comfort for your money.
Of course you don't have to fly British, a lot of the best deals are with some of the American companies. However, be aware that the American companies don't fly directly to Orlando, you will have to change planes at a hub airport, which isn't so bad for some people, but if you have children with you it's quite a lot of hassle.
